You’re training consistently, sleeping six hours because that’s what the schedule allows, and carrying a background hum of unresolved pressure from work or home — and somehow you’re gaining fat around your middle, recovering worse than you did at 32, and running on a kind of tired that sleep doesn’t fix. That’s cortisol debt.
The standard advice at this point is “reduce stress,” which is about as useful as telling a man with a broken leg to walk it off. It describes the destination without giving you any road. The problem with generic stress-reduction guidance is that it treats cortisol elevation as a single thing with a single cause, when the mechanism is actually three or four separate inputs compounding each other.
